Resting in about 25 feet of water near Rudder Cut Cay sits The Musician, a bronze mermaid playing a grand piano beneath the sea. The sculpture was placed here in 2014 by David Copperfield as a gift to his wife, Chloe Gosselin, and was created by sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor. What I love most is that although it began as a personal gift, it became something shared — open for anyone to visit and enjoy. Positioned near a tidal cut, the steady current keeps the sand bright and encourages marine growth around it. It’s a reminder that the ocean belongs to all of us — and sometimes even magic finds its way underwater.
