About The Shot
Grand Bahama, Bahamas/ 2022
A large Tiger Shark swims along the sandy seabed of Grand Bahama, accompanied by a school of Horse-eye Jacks and three large Cobia. People often ask why sharks don’t eat the fish swimming right next to them. The reason is that sharks are scavengers, preferring to prey on dead, dying, sick, or injured marine animals. The fish in this picture are likely too healthy and fast for the shark to hunt, and the shark knows that every ounce of energy is valuable. The Cobia may follow the shark for protection or to eat food scraps that fall away when the shark is feeding.
