One of my favorite things about a healthy coral reef isn’t just the color, it’s the detail. Every inch of the reef is filled with small nooks and crannies, creating shelter for fish of all sizes. If you take a moment to really look, you’ll see life everywhere, juvenile fish hiding from predators, schools moving in and out of the reef, and tiny creatures using the structure as their home. It’s like an underwater city, built for both protection and survival. Reefs like this thrive in shallow water because of their relationship with sunlight. Corals depend on symbiotic algae that use light to produce energy, which is what allows them to grow, build structure, and support so much life. The closer they are to the sun, the more energy they receive, and the more vibrant and productive the reef becomes. It’s in places like this where you really understand how much life depends on coral reefs, and how important it is to protect them.
