About The Shot
New Providence, Bahamas/ 2024
Coral reefs are often perceived as large bodies of ocean plants, akin to underwater trees. However, they are actually composed of individual animals living together in colonies. Each coral head consists of numerous coral polyps that collectively form the reef structure. These living, breathing animals eat and reproduce. Unfortunately, corals are under threat from rising ocean temperatures. This coral shot in the Bahamas may no longer exist a year after the photo was taken due to extremely high temperatures and increasingly frequent coral bleaching events in the Caribbean and worldwide.
