Greetings

This dolphin was crater feeding with its calf—digging into the sand with its beak looking for hidden fish or squid—when I took this shot. Every time it came up for air, it would pause and look directly at me. Not just glance… look. Like it was thinking something. And I couldn’t help but wonder—was it sizing me up? Annoyed I was watching? Curious why I wasn’t hunting too? Or maybe it was offering to share a snack? I’ve always found dolphins fascinating because of expressions like this one. The look on its face felt like it was trying to say something—like it had a full thought but no way to explain it. That’s what I love most about this image. There’s mystery in it. You can stare back and ask yourself the same question I asked underwater that day: “What do you think this dolphin was thinking?”
