About The Shot
New Providence, Bahamas/ 2024
The Giant Barrel Sponge coral is often referred to as the “Redwood Tree of the Reef” due to its gigantic size and long lifespan, which can exceed 2,000 years. Through its detailed ridges and grooves, this coral pumps water through its body to obtain food, including plankton and nutrients from the seawater. In the Bahamas, these corals are usually found in deeper waters where there is a healthy flow of water that helps provide more food for them to grow.
