About The Shot
New Providence, The Bahamas/ 2017
This shark, known as The Joker, is a resident of the Southwest Side of New Providence, Bahamas, and frequently visits the local shark site. This image poignantly shows the impacts of humans on the ocean. The Joker's jaw was broken in a fishing accident when she was younger, making it difficult for her to hunt and resulting in significant weight loss. Since this photograph was taken in 2019, her jaw has almost fully healed, but her weight remains lower than it once was. This injury tells a somber story of human impact on marine life, highlighting the urgent need for greater conservation efforts.
