"On those rare days when the ocean becomes a tranquil, crystalline expanse, it can truly defy belief. Drifting above the awe-inspiring drop-off that plunges into the abyss, with depths reaching beyond 6,000 feet (1828 meters), I was utterly captivated by the astonishing conditions that surrounded us. It was as if we had entered a suspended reality, a world untouched by the ordinary. The concept for the photograph you see here was an obvious choice, a testament to the beauty of light rays penetrating the profound depths and capturing the freediver's reflection before she gracefully broke the surface. A gentle surface current lent an added touch, smoothing the water's appearance beyond what even the slightest winds could achieve. Despite countless days spent at sea and thousands of hours submerged in the ocean throughout my life, this day stands out as one of the most remarkable in terms of dive conditions.”
