About The Shot
New Providence, Bahamas/ 2017
"This photograph is one of the first macro shots I’ve taken underwater. Growing up, I was always fascinated by brain coral on the sea floor, intrigued by its strange design and fitting name. My interest peaked as a child when I discovered and dug up a large, dead brain coral at the beach. It took me about an hour to excavate the heavy rock, which was almost too heavy for me to carry, but I was determined to keep it. Since brain corals only grow so large, I wanted to capture a photo that would give the perspective of being just a few centimetres away, allowing the full intricate design to be seen up close."
