About The Shot
New Providence, Bahamas/ 2024
"The Nassau Grouper is one of my favorite subjects to photograph, as their expressive eyes radiate a sense of personality and curiosity. Known as some of the most inquisitive fish on the reef, they often investigate anything that captures their attention. One evening, while I was focused on capturing macro images of sharks, a medium-sized Nassau Grouper emerged from behind the coral. It lingered nearby, observing me with quiet curiosity for the remainder of the dive—a rare and intimate moment shared beneath the waves. Unfortunately, Nassau Groupers in The Bahamas face significant fishing pressure, particularly during their spawning season, which has made encounters like this increasingly rare."
