About The Shot
New Providence, Bahamas/ 2024
"This is the closest encounter I've had with a Spotted Eagle Ray. For reference, this ray was less than a foot from my camera, almost touching my face. One day, while freediving, I searched for a group of Spotted Eagle Rays that frequent a particular coral reef each year. After observing about 12 eagle rays, they split into smaller groups. On this particular dive, I became familiar with their swimming patterns and hid behind a rock to blend in with the surroundings. As predicted, the eagle rays swam close by. The first few rays passed me warily, but the third one glided straight over my head. I thought it might nibble on my hair, but as its nose came within inches of my camera dome, it quickly darted away with a flap of its wings."
