About The Shot
New Providence, Bahamas/ 2023
This coral reef is one of my favorite spots to photograph in Nassau, Bahamas. With healthy coral systems becoming harder and harder to find, this one always stood out to me as one of the most resilient. Every time I dove here, it felt alive—teeming with color, fish, and movement. When I took this photo back in 2023, I remember feeling both proud and a little sad. Proud to be able to capture a piece of what felt like a thriving reef, but sad knowing how fragile it really was. Unfortunately, my fears came true. In 2025, this entire reef system bleached during the mass coral bleaching event that swept through The Bahamas. The bright colors and life that once filled this spot are now gone—only patches of recovery are slowly starting to appear. I hope this image serves as a reminder of what’s at stake and what we still have left to protect. Every small choice we make on land impacts the ocean. If we want reefs like this to exist for future generations, it starts with the decisions we make today.
