About The Shot
New Providence, Bahamas/ 2025
“Loggerhead turtles are one of the largest sea turtle species that frequent The Bahamas, growing up to 3.5 feet long and weighing as much as 412 pounds. For size comparison, when one of these giants approaches me in the water, they sometimes swim vertically from the sea floor straight up toward me while I’m freediving. Usually, they turn away at the last second—just a few feet from my camera—but there have been times I’ve had to gently push them off before they bumped into my glass dome. This particular loggerhead followed me for nearly three hours, ascending toward me at the surface four times during the session. The conditions were perfect—no wind, crystal-clear water, and early morning, just around 7:45 AM. On its final ascent to breathe, the turtle’s face hovered just below the surface, reflecting perfectly on the calm underside of the ocean, creating a serene mirror effect.”
