About The Shot
Exuma, Bahamas/ 2023
This sand pattern is the most tranquil underwater sand pattern I’ve had the privilege to witness across the globe. These intricate ripples etched in the sand are the result of the rhythmic dance between the ebb and flow of the Exuma currents, effectively painting this captivating pattern across the seabed. When I saw this pattern from above, I knew I wanted a human subject in frame to give a sense of scale, but for the ripples to be the main focal point since it was so unique. I wanted the model to be finless to add more of a human element and have her suspended over the sandy seabed at a depth of approximately 35 ft / 10 m. The most interesting thing about this location to me is that I’ve been here in the past, but at a different time of day, and never saw the ripples because they’re only visible in the late afternoon when the angle of the sun casts shadows on the small sand hills. This one-of-a-kind location is just one of the countless treasures nestled within the Bahamas National Trust Exuma Land and Sea Park.
